Seashells Resort, Pango.

Eight Elohim™ Shell villas on sixty metres of white-sand lagoon frontage — cyclone-proof, off-grid, and ten minutes from Port Vila. A resort concept for the Butterfly Landing lots.

Concept presentation — not an operating resort

ConceptConcept presentation — Seashells Resort is not an operating resort; rates and inclusions are indicative. Prepared by Elohim Limited as a development proposal for the Butterfly Landing lots at Pango.

The Concept

A beach that has waited twenty years for the right building.

Butterfly Landing is a vacant 3,500 m² tourism-leased site on Pango's lagoon, sharing its beach and reef with The Beach, Vanuatu next door. Seashells Resort fills it with eight Elohim™ Shells — and nothing that a cyclone can take away.

Five Beachfront Shells sit one to each strata lot with their decks on the sand. Three Lagoon-view Garden Shells nestle in the gardens of Lot 32 behind, and a ninth shell — or an open-sided pavilion — becomes the reception and Salt-water bar beside a small pool facing the lagoon. Boutique scale, design-led, and positioned a notch above the neighbouring farés.

Because each shell is a factory-made monocoque assembled on screw piles, the whole resort can be standing within months of approval rather than years — and every villa is rated for the Category-5 cyclones that Vanuatu knows from Pam (2015) and Harold (2020).

The Site

Butterfly Landing, Pango.

Between Pango Road and the Pacific, immediately west of The Beach, Vanuatu (formerly Breakas Beach Resort). Ten minutes from Port Vila CBD, twenty from Bauerfield airport — and the lot has sat empty for some twenty years.

Lessor (Pango custom owners) retains rights to the adjacent reef and marine protected area — the resort's snorkelling front yard, which the concept treats as a shared asset to be protected, not privatised.

The Villas

Three ways to sleep in a shell.

Every villa is the same Elohim™ Shell monocoque — one column-free span, a braced sleeping loft over the bathroom, cyclone shutters and a folding solar flower — fitted out three ways. Indicative nightly rates are for two guests including breakfast.

Shell imagery shows Elohim™ Shell concept renders from the main site; villa fit-outs follow the interactive 3D model at elohimshells.com/#model. Rates are positioned a notch above the neighbouring farés (whose packages start at AUD 1,250 for two for seven nights B&B) to reflect a design-led, off-grid product with private pools on offer.

Dining & Bar

The Salt-water Pavilion.

One shell, opened wide: reception by day, a twelve-seat bar and kitchen by night, with the pool and the lagoon in front of it.

Breakfast is served on the pavilion deck for all guests. Evenings are a short menu built around Santo beef, reef fish and Efate market produce — half-board packages take the guesswork out of it — with a bar of Vanuatu Tusker, Australian and New Zealand wines and a cocktail list that leans on local limes and coconut. In-villa dining is delivered to the deck.

Guests wanting a bigger table walk sixty metres along the sand to Salt Dining and Salt Bar at The Beach, Vanuatu next door — the concept assumes a friendly reciprocal arrangement rather than a competing full-service restaurant.

  • Half boardTwo-course dinner each evening on packages
  • SundownersHappy hour on the pool deck, facing the sunset

Off-Grid & Cyclone-Safe

Built for Pam and Harold.

Vanuatu took a Category-5 cyclone in 2015 and another in 2020. A resort here has to be the safest building on the peninsula and keep running when the town's water and power don't. That is what the Elohim™ Shell was designed for.

Category-5 monocoque

Low, continuous and aerodynamic, each shell presents no eaves or flat walls for a cyclone to grip. Screw-pile hold-downs, tension straps and slatted shutters close the villa up in minutes — see the anchoring visualiser.

25,000 L of rainwater per shell

A perimeter channel harvests the whole roof into a buried 25 kL reservoir under each villa — roughly 200 kL across the resort — with an atmospheric water generator as the dry-season back-up. See rain to reservoir.

Solar flower per villa

Each shell carries a folding solar array and battery for its own air-conditioning, hot water and lighting; the petals fold flat when a storm is forecast. No diesel generator, no dependence on the Pango feeder.

Reef-safe waste

Buried septic with leach drains in the garden of Lot 32, set back from the beach, so nothing reaches the lagoon or the custom owners' marine protected area. Coral-safe amenities only.

Indicative Rates & Packages

What a night would cost.

All figures are indicative, in Australian dollars, for two guests, and include breakfast, welcome drink and non-motorised water sports. They are here to test the business case, not to take bookings.

Reference: the neighbouring farés currently offer 7 nights from AUD 1,250 for two B&B and 5 nights from AUD 2,050 for two half board, with AUD 50 return transfers. Seashells rates assume a smaller, design-led product with private pools and off-grid resilience; they would be validated against occupancy modelling before any launch.

Why Shells · Timeline

Months, not years.

Butterfly Landing has carried a villas-development lease condition since 2006 and stayed empty. Factory-made shells on screw piles change the maths: no wet trades on the beach, no heavy plant, a small crew, and a resort that opens in a single dry season.

  1. Months 0–2Agree & approve

Heads of terms with the lessee, lessor (Pango custom owners) consultation, planning and environmental permits, resort operating licence.

  2. Months 2–5Fabricate

Nine Elohim™ Shells moulded and fitted out in the factory while the site is surveyed, cleared lightly and screw piles installed.

  3. Months 5–7Ship & assemble

Shell segments containerised to Port Vila, trucked ten minutes to Pango, craned onto the piles and sealed. Reservoirs, septic and solar go in alongside.

  4. Months 7–9Landscape & open

Gardens, pool, pavilion deck and beach furniture; soft opening ahead of the Australian winter-school-holiday peak.

Indicative programme for planning discussion; it assumes lessee and lessor support, standard Vanuatu permitting timeframes and factory capacity. Not a construction schedule.
